Joe Hartman's Type II Team has left the fire.  Mike Lohrey's Type 1 Team will take over the fire on 07/25/2000.

Mesa Verde Park employees were evacuated and the entrance is closed. Air operations, structural protection and burning out from the entrance road and around Morefield Village prevented the village from burning. Only slight fire damage was sustained to the roof of one campground structure. Previously 2 historic structures were lost. The fire has also continued movement south and east to the Mancos Canyon on the Ute Mountain Reservation.

Air operations and structural protection continuing. Burning out from the main park road at Far View Village began well in advance of the the fire front. The fire made another major run to the west toward Park facilities. Wind change and movement into old burns kept today's plume dominated fire from becoming as intense as yesterday. Fire is transitioning with Type I team (Lohrey).

Lohrey's Type I Team will take over this website tonight at midnight 07/25/2000.

The address will be:    http://www.bircherfire.com
